In this task we will be thinking about what functions we want our design to carry out. This is important, as it will enable us to go to nature to ask some important questions and learn how to apply natures strategies to our own challenges.
For example, if your challenge is to keep something warm, then your solution will need to insulate (i.e. the function).
- What does your solution need to do if it is to succeed?
- What function is associated with each of these attributes?
There may be multiple answers – list each individually. Consider each as a function. I.e. don’t say ‘it needs to be tall, keep people warm, and be able to withstand storms’, instead, break each of these down – 1) it needs to keep people warm, 2) it needs to be tall, 3) it needs to be able to withstand storm winds.
