Create Your Pitch Deck

What do we mean by a Pitch Deck?

Your pitch deck sums up your idea and details what needs to happen next. A pitch deck provides potential investors or clients an overview of your product or service ... it sells them your idea.

You need to be clear who you are pitching to and why. For example:

Bring to the Market: is your Design Solution something you are ready to produce and sell? Is it a product or service that meets a clear need? If yes, you might want to make a pitch to investors or a retail outlet that will sell your product.

More Research: maybe you have great ideas and your Design Solution looks good in theory, but you need to do more development work. In this case, you might want to pitch to a university or funding body to get more money to develop your product or service.

At this stage, it is still important to think about the end target group – are you creating a product or service people need?

What do I need to do?

Whoever you are pitching to, it is good to include a slide for each of the following:

  1. Title slide.
  2. A summary that outlines your Team's purpose
  3. Explain the problem your Team solves.
  4. Compare your Design Solution with other ideas.
  5. Milestones and accomplishments - what have you achieved so far.
  6. Sell your Design Solution - why choose your Team?
  7. Highlight the potential market for your Design Solution and how big the market might be.
  8. Outline what your are asking for - financial investment, research grant, skills, etc.
How to Pitch your Startup in 3 Minutes (www.saisprogramme.org/connectedhubs)

An easy way to create your pitch deck is using PowerPoint and video conferencing software such as Zoom or Teams. Simply record yourself presenting your pitch. You can get more complicated using video editing software such as OpenShot, but remember that your idea is what counts most.

Your pitch deck video should be not more than 3 minutes.
